Dr. K. Renato Lings
Wednesday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
Since the days of the church fathers, Christian theologians have regarded same-sex intimacy as sinful. This century-old bias has caused the Bible to be misunderstood. If it is studied carefully in the original languages, the Bible offers thought-provoking invitations to value same-sex relations from a life-affirming perspective. Renato Lings is a Danish Quaker Christian and biblical scholar. He holds major academic degrees in Spanish, Translation, and Theology. His studies of classical languages include Latin, Greek, Hebrew and Nahuatl (Aztec). He has worked as a translator/interpreter in a number of contexts and written technical booklets on translating and interpreting. Regarding the Bible, Renato has written and taught extensively on translation, gender, and sexuality in Denmark, Spain, Argentina, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom and the United States. His latest book in English isLove Lost in Translation: Homosexuality and the Bible (2013).
